In a democracy, the agents of the state should not be able to conceal their identity. The entire purpose of these actions is to escape accountability.
Federal agents' seemingly universal adoption of neck gaiters worn just below the eyes like they're robbing the railroad is emblematic of this time in the US

Here is the situation if I’m understanding it correctly:
1. They are deporting lawful immigrants erroneously to prisons overseas
2. They are claiming no recourse to return these individuals
3. They say they are open to deporting citizens in the same way

There's a legal term for when a state abducts you, detains you, and then conceals or denies the
detention.
Enforced disappearance.
It's a human rights violation and a crime against humanity.
That's what this is.

It is legally impossible to deport citizens. This is not deportation. Removing citizens to foreign prisons, knowing to a certainty that they will be subjected to treatment that violates the U.S. constitution, doesn’t deserve any label that connotes legal legitimacy.

Let Syrians have the chance to access these documents & understand decades of despotic rule. Let a generation of Syrian scholars study these documents & make sense of how the regime survived. Let the Assad regime, like other dictatorships, be reduced to an object of historical research.
This video showcases the documentation files kept on every family in the city of Sweida in southern Syria. Each family has its own report and file maintained by the Political Security Branch in Sweida.
