It's finally finished. This represents by far the most extensive writing I've ever done on anything. Not only is it 8X larger than the any papers I wrote for my undergrad, it's nearly long than all of those papers combined.
As I've said before, I highly recommend this book. Though I will warn ...
Why Review?
Punctuation is hard. Why? The Purpose Of The Universe, is a book by Dr. Philip Goff, and I Am going to write a review/companion of/to it.

In the space of less than 6 months, my remote first job turned into first 50% in office, and now "were pushing for 100% rto".

Guess it's time to look for a new job, yall ain't paying enough for me to be in the office every day for no/made-up reasons.

The discourse around this has been driving me mad. People on all sides keep making the same mistake, so I thought it was worth addressing in detail.
Political Violence Can Be Justified
And saying it cannot be is a thought ending cliche.

100% ready for my MAGA coworkers to be insufferable today.
September 11, 2025 at 1:57 PM
I'm so confused as to how MAGA thinks this would work given their insane refusal to do *fucking anything* when it comes to gun control.

Like, seriously? How would they fucking know?

I get the sentiment here, but I feel like the thing Goff describes is so far from how "religion" has been understood for the last 5 to 10 centuries that calling it that makes it less appealing to the people who would otherwise agree with him, and less appealing to people that want Religion.
What's needed is a religion that has the spiritual depths of the mystical traditions, is in line with modern liberal values, and is consistent with our best science and philosophy. Any offers????

I used to write quite a lot about politics, since 2016 I basically can't cool my seething rage long enough to put anything down worth sharing.

I hope that changes some day.

I always wonder if the people disagreeing with Rauser's use of "atheist fundamentalist" are people that match the definition he has for the term and are mad at being called what they see as a derogatory term, 1/

Huntsville Pride parade was awesome.

Holy crap, did not realize I needed this conversation in my life, but now that its an option I'm unreasonably excited. I hope @lanceindependent.bsky.social and @randalrauser.bsky.social can make this happen.
Hi Lance, nice to meet you. I'd be happy to have you on my YouTube channel to share your views. The third week of July would work for me or some time in August. You can follow up on Chat to work out details, thanks!

I don't understand what anyone takes philisophical zombie type arguments seriously.

At worst it seems pretty trivial to just reject the move from epistemic to metaphysical possibility.

But even at best you just modus tollens and pretend nothing happened.

Being an adult is weird. My sister just called me because she was driving and bored.

Seems normal enough...

Except she felt the need to tell me she was on the way to a booty call.

Like, obviously good for her, but why fucking tell me that?

Enterprise was a better prequel than discovery (and probably SNW but I haven't seen it so idk)

Enterprise actually felt like it really was set in the past of the timeline, where discovery feels like the rule of cool ruined their ability to fit into the timeline properly.
What's your unpopular Star Trek opinion?

Measure Of A Man is bullshit. Data was already classed as a person, had proved himself and had a fucking rank. Lost all faith in Starfleet over it. Great rights allegory though.
What's your unpopular Star Trek opinion?

Mine: Wesley Crusher was a relatable character.

This is probably the closest I'll ever get to understanding what panpsychism actually is beyond the rejection of physicalism and dualism.

And yet, I can't help but feel like this metaphor makes way more sense on physicalism than panpsychism.
Panpsychists think physics is software running on the hardware of consciousness.

This but Scaled Agile PI Planning.
The Bible mentions helping the poor thousands of times, and yet not once does it mention Jira Sprint Planning, so think carefully on that before you schedule all these mandatory meetings.

I suspect that when off the record, he would.

But Craig's role in the larger discourse has effectively become the reference point for the confidence many Christians have in the intellectual validity of their beliefs. An admission of fallibillity would undermine his capacity to fill that role.

Can anyone recommend some good reading on how panpsychism is supposed to work? I'm familiar with the argument, but what remains completly unclear is what the content is aside from the core definition that mind is fundamental. #philsky @philipgoff.bsky.social @emersongreen.bsky.social
