I wrote a bit for McSweeney's about Isaac Chotiner interviewing Santa Claus. Just a little something for the holiday season. Enjoy!

The BBC removed a line about Trump being the most openly corrupt president in American history...from a lecture about the cowardice of today's elites.
I wonder if the BBC has heard of the Streisand Effect
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Imagine coming up with a proposal so stupid, so unworkable, so thoughtless, that it makes Robert Jenrick look sane by comparison.

Only cases of alleged murder, rape or manslaughter will be decided by a jury under new proposals to cut court backlogs.

UK trade figures. Not a happy picture.

The immediate post-Brexit policy was a failure. Despite protests otherwise it seems this year's trade strategy will be only half-heartedly implemented.
Quarterly trade data out this morning. Goods exports were down 0.7% compared to Q2, with weak USA exports certainly contributing. In addition, services trade growth seems to have slowed, with growth of just 0.2%.

Another Paul Baxendale-Walker tax avoidance scheme fails, this time at the Court of Appeal.

Baxendale-Walker's own lawyers were acting for the poor taxpayer, and even they admitted the scheme failed. The only question was how badly it failed. The answer turned out to be: very badly.

How did Kristi Noem, a cabinet official with Secret Service protection, get her purse snatched, losing her DHS badge, passport, and maybe her phone? That's now a security risk. If she'd asked the SS to stand down to give her privacy, then the public needs to know who was she having dinner with. 1/

For a country as hospitable as Greenland, it is a remarkable feat to be so loathed you can’t leave the airport.

Another staggering waste of taxpayer dollars.
