If you read papers in many different languages you will see…

C19 is still causing service shut downs/delays, school closures, catastrophic levels of death, particularly when it passes through regions with people suffering malnutrition, conflict, and other infections, like malaria…

The fact is… we have a slower disaster cooking…

It’s similar to the climate emergency.

Slow, but may be devastating.

#LongCOVID
I appreciate WHO raising awareness about Long Covid. I, however, considered, and still consider, a great mistake to have declared the end of Covid "as a global emergency" two years ago. This contributed to minimize the ongoing risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection, including death and Long Covid

So let me get this straight: masks are bad and un-American if worn to fight a pandemic, but good if worn by people claiming to be government agents when they kidnap people off the street

Here's the latest variant picture for Australia, to mid-April.

XEC.* continues to dominate, but declined quite sharply in early April to around 40%.

The one to watch is XDV.*, driven by it’s latest sub-lineage NB.1.8.1, rising to 11%.

Someone decided to instruct me to remove my mask.

It was an elder… and normally elders are obeyed.

This time, I gently and firmly said no, and explained.

COVID-19 re-infection doubles risk of long COVID in kids, young adults, data reveal.

"These findings emphasize the ongoing risk of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) with reinfection, regardless of severity, and suggest that the risk of PASC may be cumulative with each successive infection"

But for others it burnt out every last bit of empathy.

I often wondered how pandemics might lead to deteriorating political and social conditions.

Now I know.

Pandemics are an opportunity for leaders to teach people to accept vast numbers of deaths… to burn out our connection with each other.

Why do UK Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines still not acknowledge airborne transmission of Covid-19?

“We are stronger as a country when we care for the vulnerable in our society.”

I have seen very little evidence of this wrt C19. I have seen mass slaughter on an industrial scale in the first two waves, and unacceptably high preventable death rates since.
