“What is will power?” asked Toad.

“Will power is trying hard NOT to do something that you really want to do,” said Frog.

Pritzker Signs Order to Get Around US Limits on COVID-19 Vaccine
“This is about making sure no family in Illinois is left wondering if they can protect themselves against preventable serious illness,” Gov. JB Pritzker said. “When the federal government abandons its responsibility, Illinois will step up.”

Another good use of juries to solve political problems in a truly representative manner.
The answer is: independent citizen commissions. They work like a jury. They gather for a specific task, do the task, and then disband.

They build fairness between the parties, they make sure communities are represented, and they build competition!

We need to enforce traffic laws to protect pedestrians and bicyclists.
Between September 2017 and January 2025, a minimum of 4,028 Chicago children were injured by a car while walking or biking.

These injuries didn't happen at random. 29% occurred between 7-9 a.m. or 3-5 p.m. on school days. Kids should be able to walk or bike to school without fear.

Sortition is superior to elections in many ways, not the least because it ensures that legislative bodies reflect the entire population, not just the minority who win elections.

“Fact is what is. Truth is what it means. So facts are objective. Truths are personal. They depend on perspective, culture, values, beliefs, context. One AI can learn and know the facts. But how does one AI know the truth for everyone in every country and every background?”

Village Enterprise is charity founded on helping people form self-sustaining businesses.
The current U.S. administration is proof that empathy and understanding cause & effect aren’t universal traits

To help those most at risk after USAID’s dismantling, I donate to Doctors Without Borders, GiveDirectly, Village Enterprise, and Charity: Water, a small way to counter needless suffering.

Good to see innovation in language model architecture
Unlike traditional models that create text word by word—such as the kind that powers ChatGPT—diffusion-based models like Mercury produce entire responses simultaneously, refining them from an initially masked state into coherent text.
New AI text diffusion models break speed barriers by pulling words from noise
New diffusion models borrow technique from AI image synthesis for 10x speed boost.
