"When I landed in Minneapolis on Monday and saw the size, scope and lawlessness of the federal onslaught unfolding here, I understood that Good’s killing was emblematic of its true mission: to stage a spectacle of cruelty upon a city that stands in stark defiance of Trump’s dark vision of America."
I went to Minneapolis last week. What I saw was horrifying and inspiring in equal measure. Gift link to my latest column: www.nytimes.com/2026/01/19/o...

It really stinks that Ofwat, under pressure from Treasury, is putting the public interest second. And we're lining them up to be sued if they continue down this path. 👇

🇨🇦 PM Carney did something like this a few months ago to get Trump to back down on some tariffs. He spoke to fellow bankers in Europe and Japan and slowly stared selling off treasury bills. China holds billions in US debt. Dedollarization devastate US economy. But likely cause global recession too.

I have always found it amusing that Trump et al often forget that we are the world’s largest debtor, making it a massive liability. China and others can put the screws to the US in a second if they wanted to. If borrowing costs keep going up, who knows what will happen. First Denmark and then others

Also it's important to NOT think of this as a direct move *by the Danish government*. The pension's board has a Ministry of Finance member, but 9/10 are non-government. This is an independent move undertaken by non-government actors, not a diplomatic decision.

Yesterday, Deutsche Bank floated the possibility that EU/NATO countries dump US treasury bonds in lieu of a military conflict. The FT carried it earlier & I've seen reels on Insta. Clearly, this is risky as it could implode the banking system. But with US debt what it is, it's a real Achilles heel.

The tone of this is good. Of course, we’re in relatively weak position, having allowed our defense to atrophy; but we needn’t be pushovers; and should stand up for our principles and push back against the bully in the White House. Starmer….
