I’ve been saying this since the last election cycle started. Republican candidates give republican voters everything they want. Democratic candidates hear what we want and then try to shave it down to appease republicans like they may vote for them.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.
