@en.ottawa.ca's draft Transportation Master Plan perpetuates this car dependency: it abandons the Official Plan's commitment to make >50% of all trips by sustainable modes by 2046.

Traffic in #Ottawa yesterday was *terrible*.

This is a natural symptom of our system's over-reliance on cars.

Car travel is least efficient mode for throughput. An efficient transportation system provides safe and connected travel through sustainable modes.

Collectively speaking, we humans are so stupid.
Earth will warm 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels in just two years, new data shows. Irreversible tipping points — like the melting of Arctic ice sheets or the collapse of coral reefs — are closer at hand than previously believed.
Earth is likely to cross a key climate threshold in two years

The committee vote on whether to lift the item:

No: Luloff, Dudas, Curry, Gower, Tierney, Brown, Kitts, Sutcliffe

Yes: King, Leiper, Brockington, Menard

Pierre Poilievre should respect the clear decision of Canadian voters who chose not to re-elect him and vacate Stornoway. Taxpayers should not be paying for a politician who no longer holds office, as doing so contradicts principles of fiscal responsibility and the appropriate use of public funds.

What if we used our existing land in better ways? What if we maintained green space and agricultural land for growing food to support farmers and provide food security? What if that was part of the solution to climate change? We know the answers; politically we’re not looking at the long game.

A little reminder for Ottawa.
sprawl is an unmitigated environmental, social, and economic disaster

it is no longer affordable (especially when you add in transportation and time)

sprawl is driving climate change. literally.

and it is a ponzi scheme - unable to fund maintenance and replacement costs
Not a single time in this article glorifying the need for sprawl to address the US's affordable housing crisis is there a mention of the vast transportation costs of sprawling living patterns. Nor is there mention of the fact that sprawl is directly linked to disinvestment in urban cores.
