She/Her. Living liver donor (non-directed), plasma donor. Skye and Dori’s fur-mom. RIP Mini, my Saint Bernard. Runs Village PR: comms for nonprofits. Lefter than left. Not related to that hateful UK "leader." Taller than you. Ottawa 🇨🇦

Hello!
I post about:
- living organ donation (mostly liver because it’s a thing I did and loved, non-directed)
- my rescued dog, Skye
- Ottawa 🇨🇦
- Communications and PR for charities
- Things I cook, if they turned out exceptionally well (or badly)
- My leftie political opinion. Very, very left.

An oft-repeated statistic says men apply for a job when they have 60% of the qualifications while women wait till they have 100%. Pretty sure that stat was debunked, but …

Several men seem to think that being Mayor is a suitable starter job for someone with no municipal experience. It’s not.

It’s still -30°C with the windchill, but the days ahead look way more reasonable. A balmy -6 coming up.

There's no longer any question: it's time to compensate transit riders for what they're going through. These pictures are heartbreaking - people going to evening shifts, home and family, class.

Please spread the word to our neighbours about a place to get warm.
@jleiper.bsky.social @catmckenney.bsky.social @arieltroster.com @shawnmenard.bsky.social
Ottawa temperatures are dropping as low as -29°C this weekend. 🥶

Need a place to warm up in Centretown? Visit the Taggart Family Y lobby at 180 Argyle Avenue.

We have seating, wifi, and washrooms. Low-cost meals and snacks are available from Chef Ric's.

Keep safe and bundled up! 🧣

Hootsuite is working with ICE to support their "social listening", but it's Hootsuite that isn't reading the room. Despite the reaction to learning they are working with ICE, Hootsuite doubled down during an internal all-hands call on Thursday. Gift link: www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/0bde79a...

Bizarre thing at Ottawa airport last night. We landed on an Air Canada flight from Mexico. Someone messed up, because we got off the plane, no customs or immigration, and went directly to the luggage carousel. People with carry-on-only just walked out of the airport. Nobody cleared customs.

Council will soon be voting on a new zoning by-law that adds greater density and focuses on 15-minute communities across Ottawa. I've been thinking a lot about growing up in Convent Glen in that context, and offer the following: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_0R....

My snow removal service just sent a message with, "If you have an urgent medical appointment like dialysis, cancer treatment or surgery on a day (or night) when we are expecting snow, notify us 24 hours in advance and we will do our best to clear your way out of your driveway before you go." 🥹

Here’s Dori in her new hat.

I got a speed camera ticket this week.
Do I call it a cash grab?
No.
Do I blame the camera?
No.
I was speeding (just a little, but still) and I'll pay the ticket.

Friday joy: Here's a video of Dori from earlier this week. Our Kentucky-born rescue pup experienced her first snowfall. And her first time walking in boots.
