It is rare to see a country takes one of its best comparative advantages, pour kerosene on it, & light it up on fire like this.

This is Pol Pot-like level of purposeful destruction without the gory side.
54 fellowships. Gone. The public & parents about to send their kids to UW (or any other university…we are not unique) will have no idea that most fellowship funding for foreign language study is now gone forever, if no one above my pay grade or Lesley’s speaks up about it.
At my uni, 54 students were awarded FLAS, and their fall semesters are in jeopardy. World languages are central to US security and economy in a multitude of ways. #FLAS #TITLEVI #intlstudies #internationalstudies

The “Homeland” is not a thing, it was made up by GW Bush and anti-Arab warmongers to help the climate for militarization after 9/11, Dept of “Homeland Security” was invented 22 yrs ago and widely seen as creepy and propagandizing at the time

It’s only ever been bullshit

With ICE's *enormous* new budget and its ability to hire *many* more agents, the United States is about to enter an era of brutal domestic terrorism that we've never seen before.

👇🎯 I’ve said this many times since January. I’m 50, &, at best now, the rest of my life will be struggling just to get back to c.2008, before a needless Lost Decade economically, followed by our authoritarian collapse politically, derailed 🇺🇸. We can still fix it, but it’s gonna take <so damn long>.
I’m going to be very honest and clear.

I am fully preparing myself to die under this new American regime. That’s not to say that it’s the end of the world. It isn’t. But I am almost 50 years old. It will take so long to do anything with this mess that this is the new normal for *me*.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

ICE *already* can't meet their detainment numbers without rounding up children, veterans, people born in the U.S., people with no criminal records, people at immigration hearings, plus academics and visitors with valid visas.

So who do they plan to detain with >10x the budget?

The answer is: you.
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

There are only three political positions in America today

1) I like the fascism

2) I'll acquiesce to the fascism (reasons for this one vary: cowardice, access, denial, misguidedly thinking that acquiescence is savvy, etc)

3) I oppose the fascism

The rest is details

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

exactly--where is congress on this and why aren't there daily hearings with the kardashian-wannabe homeland security secretary with the answers
We still have no idea who the ICE agents are. They could be insurrectionists, extremist militiamen or criminals themselves, chasing law-abiding citizens down the street for recording their kidnappings. The odds they aren't are low. Congress must raise hell about this. A masked gang runs our country.
