Took my son to a friend's birthday party, made awkward small talk with the other parents.

Rather than asking "what do you do?" I asked "so what do you get up to?" to a bored-looking dad and he perks up, telling me how he's an amateur figure skater.

Much better than hearing about some job.

A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.
