100% - said this before. gamergaters were and are the unpaid "enforcers" of management of the game industry. no reason to ever meaningfully try to do anything about these right winger harassment waves when they're the ones out there acting out what most of the management class actually believes
Any one of these massive AAA videogame companies could file suit against the 6-piece Chicken McNobody ringleaders harassing their employees, and that they don't is a choice. I said before of goobergate that the industry enjoys having a bunch of unpaid Pinkertons around too much to ever give it up.
Two months after firing over Charlie Kirk comments, Ghost of Yotei dev blames harassment campaign, not 'bad joke'

Really good thread!
Especially important if you've made or are the owner of something on the internet that lets people register, post, and communicate with each other ... particularly if it isn't really social media service ... or at least people wouldn't normally think it's social media ...
I have a fun hypothetical for the technical among us! (For certain values of fun, heh.) The scenario: You run a website. It doesn't have a mobile app: the only way to access it is in-browser. You are deeply, morally opposed to any form of invasive tracking or data-gathering on your users.

Playing anomaly games for research purposes (*cough* we'll see if that's true *cough*).
Anyway, this game feels very comforting, having lived in Tokyo for a year. Exit 8 just feels good to me ... but I know it's classified as psychological horror...

Sometimes you look at a photo of a whole (small) indie game dev studio & that's cool & all & well done to them, they just launched their 1st game
but there's only one person who potentially looks like a woman.

Oh, gosh, sometimes I hate it here. It really looks like it won't change in my lifetime

I had a variety of uncomfortable/scary experiences as a young woman working in Parramatta, travelling home on the last train of the night. But I didn't want vigilantes - from my point of view they are just as scary as the people they were supposedly protecting against
I was in Year 12 at the time and I remember these weird units on the trains in Sydney.

The NSW Police Minister described them as "loonies" and told them to go back to America.

And now Sliwa is running for Mayor of New York (Mamdani will thrash him and Cuomo IMO).

‘They got gangs here’: How Sydney got caught up in New York’s mayoral race
A candidate for mayor of New York City established a volunteer vigilante force to patrol Sydney’s train network in 1992. Here’s what he thought of Parramatta.

Oh! The video games played in October all begin with 'B':
The Biggleboss INCident; Blackwell Unbound; The Blackwell Convergeance; The Blackwell Deception; Backpack Battles.
Yep, #pointandclick
I've started the last in the Blackwell series - I'm not finished yet. I'm enjoying seeing how they develop

I don't always agree with Aust government tech policy, but I do think the ACCC should test this in court.
And another win for the day: the Aust government has ruled out changing copyright laws to allow companies to train AI for free: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10...

I agree with what Commissioner Anna Cody says: “There is a rise in that more conservative agenda, and it has used the anti-trans ideology to drive that. I am concerned, both for all women and also for the trans community.”
Anti-trans rhetoric harms ALL women. #auspol

The nazis themselves were not some clever masterminds where everything they did went perfect. They were also comical idiots who did ridiculous things, like invading Russia in the winter.

They gained power because the opposition couldn’t understand that the fascists were not rational agents.
that said: I think the "it's not fascism unless they're good at it" brand of analysis probably isn't the move

#PointAndClick why does the character seem to shrink & grow as they move round a room? They look like shrinking or walking down stairs as they move towards the viewer (opposite of IRL!) Not just this game, lots of others. Is the character staying the same size but the room has perspective? #gamedev

But history didn’t stop in 1992 and then start again in 2016

like its fucking nuts that we don’t understand the “War on Terror” — the political event — as one that transformed American society and the presidency and how the GOP grabbed power, attacked civil liberties and … literally created the DHS

(Apropos of playing a newly released game) #gamedev, please think extra hard why your main character needs to be nasty? I know your aim is a complex, interesting character. But *at this current historical moment*, a main character who's mean/sarcastic to everyone around them just isn't feeling good

I think this is so smart. Starting with an RPG book, not a CRPG ... so fewer legal issues; creating a new world for players to dream about; and funds for the game studio to grow. Bravo @summereternal.com !
INTRODUCING: Summer Eternal Anthology Volume One.

This incendiary tome is part cultural journal, part development diary, part exclusive game reveal. Built by firestarters, for firestarters.

Think about it, on a platform like Bluesky where so many people have been online for 10+ years: How many of the voices you appreciated 10 years ago are still around? How many of them still post? How many are still alive? The guys who organize & fund the hate campaigns are *still* going after them.
