So yesterday, we were watching a movie, and there was several ads for a children’s hospital begging for a monthly donation so they could continue fighting cancer
And all I could think of is we live in the richest country on earth with 800 billionaires and a trillionaire

It's kind of crazy how important school districts are to the underlying economy of a series of small towns, and how in doubling down on homeschooling and charters and all that business, rural types have basically put people in power who are ripping away the most important employer where they live.
Concur. I did enough HS accreditation visits in rural northern New England that I can do the community profile in my sleep. The five biggest employers

The school district
The hospital
The largest supermarket
One mill/plant/factory
One wild card (tourism, a 2nd factory, distro center, rail yard.)

Marjorie Taylor Greene came into Congress in 2021 worth about $700,000. She leaves five years later worth around $25,000,000. 😳 Congress is just a giant insider-trading scheme.

Canadian reality TV star threatens to go full Karen on most powerful elected official in NYC
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

One of the less-discussed points Al Gore made in his crusade against fossil fuels was that there was a ton of money to be made in developing alternative sources of energy. But, of course, we were too dumb to listen.
The US is the world's largest oil and gas producer. Yet, "China is now making more money from exporting green technology than America makes from exporting fossil fuels."

I’ll never forget when I first met one of my favorite Canadians as a teen, and told her “I love Toronto.”

Her response was a sigh, followed by “All Americans do.”
The jays having one good inning and then spending three hours holding everyone hostage while they waste any and all goodwill is the energy Toronto brings to this nation, I just want Americans to know this

A British comedian will let you know they're being funny by varying their quiet monotone by a subatomic fraction unmeasurable on any known scale.
