As Filippo Grandi prepares to step down after a decade as UN high commissioner for refugees, he sees “a crisis of global leadership, a failure of imagination and ambition, and a proliferation of populist rhetoric that is numbing us to the plight of others,” he writes.

Beyond the appalling description of ICE holding cells, this ruling also catalogs ICE'S brazen defiance and contempt for the judge's orders. It's stunning and would cry out for congressional inquiry, if we had a Congress.
1/ A Trump-appointed federal judge, Gary R. Brown, ordered the immediate release on bail of a noncitizen and directed the government to show cause why it should not be held in contempt over ICE’s repeated failures to follow court orders.

The Trump administration celebrated Christmas on Thursday by posting a series of religious messages from official government accounts, using language that drew criticism from those who pointed to America's separation of church and state.
Trump Administration Emphasizes Religion in Official Christmas Messages
Government officials have traditionally steered clear of such overtly religious language, as the Constitution prohibits the establishment of an official state religion.

Enjoying this report by David Hart who argues that the smarter strategy for the US is to compete with China in the EV space. Electric vehicles are a superior technology & will eventually displace ICE vehicles. Abandoning the contest will leave the US behind. www.cfr.org/report/compe...

Bit of a wild story. Hearing this second hand, but buckle up.

ICE attempted to pull a Kavanaugh stop last night (Christmas Eve), pulling over my mom’s boss (an LPR). He proved his immigration status, but they decided to go after the coworker he was with instead. It gets wilder from here… 1/

I’ve been worried about this. People who signed up for a US ‘self-deportation’ scheme say their payoffs were delayed, misdirected or never arrived – leaving them empty-handed in their home countries.
