ICE is not Gestapo, but slave patrols.
It's not foreign, but deeply American, categorical brutalization of non-white people (& now those who stand up for them).
They do not need to have warrants, and people facing deportation are not entitled to lawyers, or what we imagine as due process.

I'm so sorry to the people whose entire communities are being ravaged right now because other people believed that Trump would only ravage members of *other* communities. Lesson: Listen to Black Americans and Indigenous people when they tell you what it's like to be targeted by your own country.

Some of the so-called Hollywood elite sure don't have a problem cozying up to vaccine deniers and racists when it's time to promote their projects. Reminding us once again that the super wealthy just aren't like us. Thank god for folks like Ava D and Mark Ruffalo who keep their conscience. 😔

There was a similar flowering of Black American public intellectuals culminating in the 2016-2024 period, and I'd argue the anti-Woke backlash was in many ways a reaction to the threat this posed to the outclassed white punditocracy, for whom meritocracy and DEI hire was a way to disqualify them.
Just finished this right after having read @hofrench.bsky.social's Second Emancipation, and it convinced me that the African & African diaspora anti-colonial thinkers of the 1940-1975 period constituted one of the great intellectual movements in the history of humankind.

This is the sixth death in ICE custody in 18 days. This isn’t enforcement, it’s a system that cages people, outsources care, and shrugs when they die. Abolish ICE.
