Are you up to watch Sunshine for next week?
Claire Denis' "High Life" is a gorgeous, bleak, cryptic film about humans in space with no hope of returning to Earth, and the ending is either ambiguous or very depressing. Interpretations vary! Let's discuss...

High Life: You Can’t Go Home Again - Reactor
A bleak, wonderfully strange film with an ambiguous ending...or is it? No one can seem to agree.

It's seven years since we posted on Twitter about how kids kept coming into the library asking if we had any books about FORTNITE. We didn't back then, and we'd never heard of it so we tried asking what it was.

this is such a depressing misread of why Trumpism wins

American voters aren't drawn to parables

They want an enemy and they want to see that enemy hurt
‘The Bible doesn’t tell us about research studies conducted by Saint Peter. Data is going to lose to parables every time.’ (Paraphrasing)

This is why bizarre bs, rumors, and propaganda from this administration are so effective. And - filling in the blanks -why the responses have been so inadequate.

Mayor Brandon Scott has reduced crime in Baltimore by 62%, and now has the lowest homicide rate in Baltimore history.

How did he do it?

NOT be spending more on police. He did it by MAJOR investment in afterschool and literacy programs.

BTW, as Mira Nair films go, don't sleep on Kama Sutra, with great performances from Naveen Andrews, the very picturesque Ramon Tikaram, and film debutante Indira Varma.

Also a great score.

I'm reading this book for my long-running book club focusing on sci-fi and fantasy. We read both old books and new and after years of doing it, we're on the verge of quitting new books. Old books are often not as well-written (this one is, though), but new books disappoint us by being boring af.
