In fact I used to chew on the question of whether I was really a girl or some kind of third gender.
My personal conclusion has usually been “kind of both.”
But throughout my wondering, nothing ever changed about what it would mean for my needs or actions, or those of other trans women.

1) It doesn’t matter if trans women are women. If everyone decided we were a third sex tomorrow, it wouldn’t make us any less precious and worthy of protection.
2) Of course we are women and if this weren’t manifestly true we wouldn’t be asking the question.
