"Private equity is causing the housing crisis" is a very common take that mixes up cause and effect. Single-family homes are an attractive investment vehicle for private equity because there's a shortage of them, not the other way around.

For any Revolutions podcast fans who want to return to 20th century Europe after Mars, I can’t recommend the Irish Revolution series by Michael Laffan enough: historyhub.ie/theirishrevo...

A reduced scale versus other conflicts @mikeduncan.bsky.social has discussed so far but still fascinating!
Irish Revolution Podcast series by Michael Laffan
The Irish Revolution was a module taught by Professor Michael Laffan in the School of History and Archives, University College Dublin from the late 1970′s until his retirement in 2010.

An anniversary worth marking.

I'm sure we're going to see the very people who have trashed its legacy seek to appropriate WW2 today - so let's remember what was really fought for: peace, a more united Europe, a land fit for heroes (mark 2) and the defeat of fascism.

An annoying side effect of the right wing Irish Slaves myth is that it's very hard to talk about indenturement and coffin ships etc without having to clarify repeatedly that it wasn't slavery.

We should be able to talk about bad things without having to say that other things were worse.

Just look at how we view hoodies. On Mark Zuckerberg, the hoodie is a symbol of whiz kid meritocracy breaking norms and developing the New Economy. On people like Trayvon Martin, the hoodie is sometimes seen as proof of criminality. Again, it's about the bodies beneath the clothes.

As a cis bloke I'm just gonna put this out there -

Get your fucking shit together lads

Show up

I don't give a single fuck if I get boring posting this stuff. Do. What's. Right.

It's that fucking simple. It doesn't matter that you don't have a dog in the fight if someone's getting mauled by dogs.
This is not a post to critisise trans allies. I am, however, increasingly shocked at the lack of outcry from most cisgender people to the ever rising anti-trans hate. Trans people in the US and UK are being legislated out of existence.

What will it take?

Please share.

It will never cease to amuse me that when Charles Bukowski got cable TV the first thing he saw on there was Eraserhead and he loved it and thought it was all going to be like that and then he never saw anything like it on TV ever again
