The way people treat trans people says a lot about how they treat people who are mentally ill, so it's probably no surprise the world sucks at dealing with both categories

Like "oh these people were just inherently Crazy anyway, they're lost causes, just leave them to hurt and delude themselves, what they're feeling isn't real, just ignore them lmao 🤣"

20-odd years ago my parents ordered a new gas fire and because they didn’t have any normal ones in stock they got a remote control one for free. the next time my dad fast-forwarded the DVD player the fire came on

now whenever someone rings the doorbell it acoustically zaps her like an electric shock. we now know when someone's at the door when my mother leaps up suddenly

(my dad insults my mum but he always makes sure never to go TOO far because that's Wife. he goes further with me in a way he can't with my mum because he knows he'd be lonely and miserable without her even though the relationship barely functions)

"your dad always compares me to your grandad because we both have mental health issues" he does this with me (compares me to grandad because he thinks I'm the one who's spoiled, entitled and refuse to work on myself) and he's a prick to do so but honestly my mum has my granddad's spoiled attitude

I love my mum but I genuinely want to call her a cocksucker sometimes. Every man gets infinite chances with her no matter how dangerous or gross they are. It's one of the most infuriating and pathetic things about her. Still a pick me! Sixty year old!!! Overgrown toddler!!!!!

Fully grown sixty year old woman, raised in a #aesthetic trad gender roles house, spoiled by my grandma for being eldest and looking like grandad on estrogen, bullied by girls in primary school and one female teacher, used to tell me she was worried about the fact I was a girl but "youre okay"

"hrmmm I and my mother have recently been informed my mother will have to fully financially divest from my grandfather and his pension in order for his care home fees to not totally bankrupt my grandmother and we aren't happy about this, oh wait his head nurse didn't open a letter EVIL BITCH WHORE"

The sole change of pace compared to the American side of the operation is that Trump is actually more divisive and unpopular and you will get ratioed for defending him, but they still think all racist attacks are exaggerations for compo and Farage needs to be given a chance

I honestly don't know what my opinion is. I think a lot of lefties that grew up with/in the BBC ecosystem, such as myself, feel like we have to overcorrect for our previous fealty. Ngl there are a few arenas where my opinions can be quite easily led and this is one of them

It's extremely bittersweet because OTOH half of my family are The BBC Family and I have grown up with that weird - don't know what else to call it - parasocial? deferential? feeling towards it, I have nostalgia tied to it, but I also kind of hate it and wish it would collapse. Much like the royals

I used to spend most of the internet time I ever got (when I went to work with my dad) on the BBC website ecosystem in the early 00s. My first taste of forum culture was the Newsround forum in like 2006. It was one of the only sites I was allowed to go on 😔
