I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Just reading about a doctor called Paddy Randles in Navan in the 1960s who wrote to all the newspapers to raise awareness of the number of his young patients with injuries from corporal punishment at school.
He was denounced from the pulpit and had the tyres on his car slashed.
