Many new folks joined our online covid conscious book club recently. It's been heartwarming to see folks' enthusiasm not only about the book, but about the accessibility of our setup of listening to the audiobook together then participating in discussion as much or as little as folks are able to.

A heart wrenching read for me. This brought to mind the virtual burlesque shows that popped up, followed by the few masked shows, followed by mass abandonment of all precautions. I miss queer burlesque, but it's currently not accessible for disabled and immune compromised performers and audiences.

when we say “you can become disabled at any moment” it doesn’t just mean you could have an aneurysm, it also means the state could declare you “unfit” for something that was normal to talk about publicly not long ago.
Not only is this going to literally kill people they are setting up a system to medicalize and institutionalize vast swaths of this country. I’m just waiting to see when we start seeing massive movement in for profit mental institutions construction bids being granted by the feds
