My criteria for what films and TV I'll watch right now comes down to this: I'll watch stories where the directorial stance, and that of the majority of the characters, is to value human* life.
*Or for sci-fi, sentient life

truly I do not understand what it means for something to be PG for “thematic elements”.
Surely all movies have themes and some elements that relate to those themes

I tried to watch Monsoon Wedding, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere on streaming, not even for rent. Thank goodness my local library has it on DVD. Might just rewatch Mississippi Masala tonight instead.

Decided to dip into Mira Nair's back catalogue this weekend with the Namesake. What a great movie. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy Kal Penn as an actor. The directing and editing are great, and I love the way the story jumps across time. A heartwarming immigrant family drama.

Now watching: Mr. Cinderella (1936). A rare Monroe Owsley movie where he isn't a villain, just a chaotic force of good, as he plays the "fairy godmother" to Jack Haley's Cinderella. For a movie fresh in the Hays Code era, this comedy gets away with a lot of queer jokes.
However you choose to celebrate Monroe Owsley, even if it's just for a minute, let me know! I've got cheesecake and am going to watch some movies I own on DVD (This Modern Age and Mr. Cinderella), and then I'll be watching Indiscreet and Ex-Lady (linked above) on my computer later tonight.
