For those who celebrate with friends or family, have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’ll be the sous-chef for a family feast and I’ll be selling art over the weekend at the Kluth Gallery in Kent. Wishing y’all love and light! #manythanks #giveart #writingcommunity

Sadly there is no competition in the ISBN market, so pricing is not great. Buy a 10-pack to save money. Bowker is the U.S. source.

First book, I used an Amazon ISBN, found out later you can’t list it through Ingram unless you have your own ISBN. Amazon ISBNs only work on Amazon.

Positive feedback on my book, Capital Disrupt. Mike K says it’s funny, he liked the unique vocabulary and he wondered how true the stories are. I said they all start out true, then I extrapolate and exaggerate (and change the names). Laugh at a near-future mild dystopia #writingcommunity #disrupt.

If everyone shares a common mind and goal, how does work get distributed to the human nodes? Some distributed computing algorithms are needed.

The best portrayal of a universal hive mind I’ve read is Justina Robson’s Theo in Living Next Door to the God of Love. #hivemind #writingcommunity
Pluribus unfortunately has activated both the 'i want to write about television again' and 'i want to write for television again' parts of my brain

Being independent is the future of writing but that makes promotion expensive and many-faceted.
If you decided to write looking for a financial and easy windfall, it means you drank the coolaid of the hucksters selling ai and marketing lies. Most writers find writing a full novel hard as hell, even if they love it. Most discover the business of writing is equally hard.

Autocorrecting now. 🤩
Even writing my BlueSky posts I find at times “autocorrect” altering things words or lines behind where I’m typing. You have to keep your wits about you because you’ve seen it appear as you expected only to find it “corrupted”.

Why pick a book off the bookstore or library shelf? It’s the cover, of course. If the cover looks tacky, you can be sure the text is as well. Keep making cool covers, the books are writing themselves in your subconscious. #writeaway #coverart #writersblock
The urge to drop the gorgeous covers I'm sitting on right now is SO STRONG, but I told myself I wouldn't reveal a cover before I was writing the story it's for. 😭

Big on vision, low on practicality. Do we really want sunshine at night? Billed as a solar power booster, the array can also work as a weapon, focusing blinding beams of light on small targets at any time of the day or night.

If you haven’t submitted to Apocalypse Confidential, give it a try. They love experimental writing and they seek the unique. The artwork is fun too. AC published my lyric essay, Awaken to Beauty, two years ago. #writingcommunity #authortalk #submittable apocalypse-confidential.com/2024/07/27/a...

Nice artwork on that book.
Today I was #locationscouting and took #derkatzenprinz with me. 🌲🌲

I thought "how cool would it be to read a Zemnian fairytale at a waterfall in the #BlackForest". Didn't work out as planned, but here are more pretty shots.

I never understood why so many people use Spotify. To me it always felt like MySpace, just a little clunky and dated.

“I can deal with my music essentially being stolen and the quality of music generally being diminished. I mean, I can't deal with it, but I can suck it up. But when stolen music is being used to murder people for profit, that was the end of the line for us.” slate.trib.al/AJf3QHH
Why Bands Are Leaving Spotify
It may not make a dent in Spotify’s bottom line, but it’s the moral choice they could deal with.

Do y’all think I should redo my website? I’ve got a blog where I write about writing and a link to add book reviews. Should I add a sliding carousel on the home page?

Thank you to Matt for letting me answer my most-asked craft question in his craft newsletter! (If you don’t subscribe to No Failure, Only Practice, you should probably remedy that btw.)
Happy pub day to @ambersparks.bsky.social and her excellent novel HAPPY PEOPLE DON'T LIVE HERE! Thanks to Amber for guest-posting at No Failure, Only Practice with a craft essay on "How to Write a Novel with the Kitchen Sink Thrown In," a fun look at what to do with your many/too-many obsessions.

I’m hard at work converting my new book of poetry, Flywheels, into an e-book. I’m using open-source Sigil.

There’s a learning curve, but Sigil is a great tool for editing. Calibre is an e-book reader for testing your drafts.

I like plot advice but don’t often get it. Everyone is critical about my use of dialogue to drive the plot. They say I should write a play. My response is, many authors successfully use dialogue to drive the plot. Your thoughts? #dialogue #plotholes #fiction

Borges forever!
Any new investment in Argentina has to be focussed on its successful industries, ie. writing weird short stories. Anything else would just be giving free combs to a bald man.
