1/ THREAD: This year ICE has sent a record 600 immigrant kids into federal shelters, more than in the previous four years combined. Data suggests some are being separated from their families.

For one 15-year-old, it began with a cracked windshield 👇

Newsom is stepping out and taking risks - and putting some legal muscle into fighting what is happening. I get his ambition is driving it but am open to his approach while knowing his agenda
Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?"

Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

I get the bully reference for Rahm and Cuomo but Gavin? Gavin is a lot of things but bullying is not one of them
Andrew Cuomo is resurgent, Gavin Newsom is podcasting, and Rahm Emanuel is considering a presidential run. Are these the bullies Democrats need? @galbeckerman.bsky.social asks. theatln.tc/BO6vnFaE

AOC is asking everyone to call their Senator at 8am EST
CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up.

Tomorrow is the cloture vote.

KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

good to know
So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID.

This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.

What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.
Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

Pick a known name from Finance, Health, Education that has respect across party lines. Create social presence, podcasts, public relations support
One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

excellent steps for our electeds to be supporting. What coordination is happening with Dems in Congress?
Beating Trump in court reminds people that there's still a system in place that's supposed to stop him from becoming a dictator. Will it ultimately work? I don't know, but on the pod, @normeisen.bsky.social suggests one way it might.

aren’t these cadets pretty conservative?
The United States Military Academy has just eliminated all Cadet clubs and activities for POC. Most of these have existed for decades like the Society of Black Engineers. They were there when I was a Cadet in 1987. All of the religious ones remain. This isn’t DEI. It’s white Christian Nationalism.

Newsom: now is the time to step up and accelerate trade apprenticeships in CA. Our high schoolers who are not going to college AND work permitted immigrants (who can get green cards if you do it right). employers who stand to benefit from rebuilding L A would be a good place to start!
