what is the general Hegelian response to Schelling's late "positive philosophy"?

I am a complete doomer about cooptation, ftr. I more or less just think you should say and advocate for what you think is true, and can defend on good grounds, and never bother trying to hedge against people coopting your ideas. Ideas can always be coopted, there is no defence against that.

man this website is kind of terrifying. though maybe because my first exposure in a while is looking at the "bullying is good actually" discourse

What the hell, the President elected in 2008 in Stephen Baxter's 1997 novel Titan sounds just like Trump II—cutting off foreign aid, rumours of troops in Panama, raising tariffs, building the wall, hawkish over China and cutting science research

The level of hatred these AI bros have for creative people I just do not understand

the qts are so weird with the "yeah bullying and death threats are cool, get out if you can't handle it" like what. hard to imagine someone affirming this wholeheartedly
people get mad at me when I say this but it's a Serious Problem for bluesky's long-term viability that the userbase actively tries to bully people they don't like off here
The problem is that Bluesky is still a niche platform at 1.3 Mil active users per day globally. Getting your boss to say yes to making an account and dedicating the time and effort to maintaining it means they need to see positives for that investment. A middle finger isn’t a good return.

man ChatGPT o3 is an extremely weird little guy. why was it able to do this. it did not seem to access anything external in order to produce this weird map in response to just being fed the logs from my tabletop game

"there exists a rigorous mathematical description of the commonalities between every Seinfeld episode sufficient to reconstruct new episodes recognizable as instances of the genre" is an indisputable and bizarre fact at this point, even if the episodes reconstructed in this way are bad.
this is where ive been. it's insane that when chatgpt generates you a sitcom dialogue it can only do it bc its extracted a principal component vector for the concept "sitcom", and done so from what words appear next to each other. several insane implications there even if the result is a bad sitcom!

i have come to feel that both of them (and 'pundit genre' they are a part of) are eating off of a fundamental revulsion not so much at the technology but the habits of mind of the people pushing them.
as an LLM skeptic, it is pretty annoying that two of the biggest LLM skeptics in the media (Ed Zitron and Brian Merchant) neither know anything about LLMs nor are particularly interested in them

Not quite what OP is thinking of, but Black Library paperbacks are pulp, action novels designed to sell toy soldiers. And among them, there's Peter Fehervari, who's exploring narratology, memory, and the possibility of redemption in an imprint designed to sell plastic army men.
What’s a line/passage that’s stuck with you from what you consider otherwise a not particularly profound piece of fiction? Not necessarily from a bad film/book, just something that’s oddly evocative/poignant considering it comes from a not especially deep piece of art. This is from Reacher novel:

subtle problem in academic humanities writing I rarely see addressed is the expectation that you have your conclusive thesis articulated at the level of the abstract/proposal before you do any of the research or writing. this incentivizes both motivated reasoning and safe, obvious research
