Just finished "The Alters" and absolutely adored it. By far my favorite game of the year so far. Just excellent from beginning to end. Highly recommendable and if you have game pass you already have access to it 🙂

Very happy with a dev tool update I added for the team today. It makes it much easier and faster to interact with and test some of the core components of our game anytime, anywhere while playing without releasing your hands from the input device. So powerful! There's a GDC talk brewing I think...

That feeling when you find a small little UX improvement to the editor tools that you know no one would ask for but everyone you show it to loves the idea of is great.
Use 30 min to implement it through an ancient system that does exactly what you need and give instant value to your peers. Good day!

Did my first external game jam in over 10 years and had a great time in a team with IO colleagues making a hectic stealth game for players who don't care about stealth.
You can download and play it from: krainert.itch.io/cheese-it

Each round is 2 min, so it's quick to try :)

Happy GDC everyone! 2023 was my first year going and it was a really inspiring week of getting to meet so many new, awesome dev peers in the industry. I hope I'll get the opportunity to visit some other time.
I can't wait to indulge in all the knowledge sharing that will appear online soon!

That was a great Game Awards 2024 show. Really brought back the vibes from the best E3 conferences along with highlighting great developers while being self-aware enough to call out the limitations of being a Promotion platform, Award Ceremony and Ad space all in one. This was the best format yet.

The reason crafting is in every game now: It's like money laundering for game designers

Let me explain.

Optimist: The cup is half full

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Game design: if we just convert the cup contents from a float to an int, we will ensure the cup is always either completely full or completely empty. Now, please, can we move on to the next topic?
Optimist: The cup is half full

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Writing: Wait you shot the cinematic so he’s holding a pitcher instead of a cup? Great now I have to rewrite an entire level of gameplay VO.

I just received this in the mail and am very excited to binge re-watch the best video game developer documentary ever made.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in a real, honest look at the making of games. Bravo @doublefine.com and 2 player productions!

I was talking about game design methodologies, specially for ideation, pillars and how to structure a project, and I rememeber "The Colors of Game Design", from my friend @lipedal.bsky.social, which is one of the best works on the theme I have ever read, check it out:

The colors of game design
What if game design could be summed up into four “primary colors” and their mixtures? This simple tool might help you organize your ideas.

The traversal in Spider-Man is just unparalleled. If every game gave this much pleasure when exploring the world fast travel would be so much less needed. It's just a joy. Amazing craftsmanship.

Someone told me that this app may seem very empty because of this default setting that requires replies to have 2 likes or more before they show up.

Indeed! I changed it so that all replies show up, and suddenly the place seems much more lively. I highly recommend changing it in your settings.
