Pretty sure that humans have been in Europe for quite some time.

Well that happened. My thoughts go out to those who will be affected by the inevitable restructuring of EA and its studios.

So, just to get this straight. Folks are expressing malcontent with the government's brownshirts and now troops are sent to clean up. And members of the President's staff are saying that expressing oneself verbally against said brownshirts is effectively terrorism. And this is year one?

So this rapture thing... Was that supposed to be midnight GMT or are we looking at some other time zone here? Just wanna make sure I'm prepped for the flight.

I have found a need to distract my brain away from only thinking creatively at work and let me just tell you, writing short-form horror is fun! Why didn't I do this earlier?

Ouch.
Sorry our game director ate some carbonara over the weekend and now we’re doing carbonara. yeah we can pivot from bouillabaisse no problem.

Somehow I had completely missed that one of my favorite horror writers, @johnhornor.bsky.social, has a new book out in less than a month! Christmas comes early this year and it smells of the sea. Can't wait!
This is not a gigantic tour but it is MINE and I’m very excited to be visiting these places in support of THE NIGHT THAT FINDS US ALL. Especially stoked to be chatting with @cshumble.bsky.social who is a great dude in addition to being one of the most talented young writers coming up in the world!

Pretty soon they'll be charging folks for all those thoughts and prayers too, I bet. Absolutely disgusting.

This thread is a fine example of what happens when assumptions overflow online. We know the difference, folks. We asked for that position because we need that specific skillset.

The content I often have people try to convince me as "this is boring, let AI do it" is 1) not actually boring, 2) often what you want to write the MOST because there's more freedom to it (ambient convos!) 3) often too complex structurally for AI & the most important one 4) how we train juniors!!!
My first assignment as a junior writer was the emails + news articles in Batman: The Enemy Within. I built out the world, deepened characters, + rewarded players with branched text that reflected their choices.

In-game text can make the world feel like a handcrafted love letter, or a chore list.

Finding a good writing gig in games is tough at the moment but luckily I'm looking for a new WRITER to join the team for our upcoming FANTASY game at IOI. Cinematics, banter, systemic dialogue, descriptions, you'll get your hands in all of it.

So the “steal your stuff to sell it back to you while we set fire to the world” business can’t function if they can’t steal your stuff? Who knew?!

Chantal is so on point here in this thread, I can’t add anything meaningful. This happens absolutely constantly and bloats budgets and wears down devs wildly. I know it’s important to reduce risk but JFC it can be costly to reduce risk this way.
something people don't talk much about in this era of "publishers expecting a near-finished game before investing" is

games are being made sub-optimally in order to speed-run vertical slices/convincing demos

instead of finalising systems then building content, you have to make content alongside 1/

Writing can be a miserable process. All the self-doubt, the rewrites, the "what is this shit?", the exploration to find something interesting. Today I wrote two chapters for my novel and it felt good. Felt like I got to something important in the story. The end is in view. Keep pushing forward.

If you haven't yet, play #AtomFall. It's absolutely fantastic. Brilliant storytelling by @jonathanlhoward.bsky.social and his team, just finished one of 6 or 7 endings now and am ready to dive back in. Very English, very moody, great sense of paranoia and never quite enough ammo. 10/10.
