Competition Economist in the UK public sector
It's the pettiness and misery of the power fantasy that gets me here. They don't want to rule the world, or lead a galaxy-conquering imperium. They just want a little patch of dirt where they can beat their slaves in peace.
21/ Yarvin also wrote that, “No combination” of Patchwork residents “can possibly oppose” the Patchwork “Delegate” (CEO/leader). “Not even if they all come together in one big angry mob…ALL WILL BE MASSACRED BY [the leader’s] INVINCIBLE ROBOT ARMIES.” (Caps added.)

My leading theory is that Google's strategy is to destroy as many websites as possible to salt the earth against rival search engines.
ah, time for the ol' monthly "motherfucker the career I picked 15 years ago will probably be gone in half a decade and I don't think I'm actually good at anything else" panic hour
On top of everything else going on ...

Very close to reaching zero fossil fuels on the UK electric grid soon. Solar will be coming up fast over the next hour, so we could hit it soon if it stays windy.

This week in #chartcrimes : this FT chart. Logging GDP is often sensible, as is benchmarking it to another country's, but doing both seems misleading - the gaps at the end are actually massive (30% vs 63% vs 80%)

It also has an unusable x-axis, where the year labels refer only to the China series.

Love how the eclipse today is visible in the national grid data.

Said Vice Chancellor was more than happy to cover for Alice S*llivan over the exact same shit if it meant sucking up to the Christofascist boss at her old job

I sometimes remember that Stoller owes his entire career as a public intellectual to Russell Brand.

His brother directed Get Him To The Greek, and recommended him to Brand who needed a suit-wearing sidekick on his TV show.
the way to understand this is that stoller is happy that musk and trump is going after the kinds of people who make fun of him on the internet for being a dumbass
lol not even hiding it at this point

This is Othman. Othman is a fascist who talks about things like the "Jewish Question."

Othman also posts a lot of evidence he works in the White House. He claims to be at the Executive Office of the President.

I don't know Othman's exact identity yet, but we've got some significant clues!

I've never believed in the basic premise of private infrastructure financing (public borrowing will always be cheaper).

But post-HS2 a depressing idea is that it stops governments from ruinous last-minute cancellations by imposing a Treasury-legible cost for this.

Day 2! Rotterdam to Utrecht, with a pitstop in Gouda.

The longest day of cycling that I've planned for myself, so left bright and early.

Rotterdam is cool. One of those European cities that feels really American.

Day One of my Netherlands cycling odyssey!

(posting a day late as it was a Big Day)

Got kicked off the ferry bright and early and got a nod of respect from the Dutch border guy checking my passport when I told him what I was doing.

Pic is of dawn from the boat. Norco-ass country.

I'm spending a week cycling around the Netherlands solo. Will live-sky it.

Pic is of my planning process.

Route is Hoek van Holland -> Rotterdam -> Utrecht -> Amsterdam -> Haarlem -> Leiden -> Den Haag -> Hoe van Holland.

At one of the strange little 18th Century church in the City, jammed between the skyscrapers.

Ben Edge is talking about how he got into painting the folk traditions of Great Britain.
