There has been a huge push in the last few years towards the normalization of extrajudicial killing — from Palestine to the United States and beyond. The directive comes from the very top of society and it is being dutifully disseminated by the media.

There is much that is "unprecedented" about the Trump Administration. I'm not convinced the attack on Venezuela is, however.

It strikes me as awful in a way that has plenty of precedents in U.S. history.

YA is inherently bad for media literacy and literary culture because while it's meant to be the scaffolding between childhood books and adult books it offers all the appeal and benefits of "adult" literature without the sophistication or, crucially, the challenge

If I had been forced as a pre-teen and teen to only read YA, I would have stopped reading for pleasure.

People who say they don't like The Catcher in the Rye because Holden is annoying are usually boring, lacking in empathy, or both.

A lot of readers and critics in the English speaking world read García Márquez's novels as though they were set in some hodge-podge Latin fantasy land, rather than being very much rooted in the history and culture of Colombia's Carribbean coast.

People in the country with the world's strongest military, as well as a highly militarised culture, somehow think this is "Un American."
This is so jarringly unAmerican that I sort of hope it wakes some normies up. It is occurring in a context where military-style equipment is being used to enforce immigration roundups and conveys the notion that we are increasingly living in a police state.
In preparation for next week’s parade/demonstration, tanks are being moved into Washington, DC today. Unprecedented.

They gave them to Belfast catholics and protestants in the same episode.
Absolutely not handing anything to New Atheists here, but I think the idea might have predated the '00s movement.

I remember watching a truly cursed Captain Planet ep as a kid, where the bad guy gave nukes to a Jewish & a Muslim kid in Israel, & was like "good luck stopping Armageddon ho ho. 😏"

I remember when it was "blood libel" to even suggest Israel might have bombed a hospital.
The Israeli military struck and destroyed part of a hospital in northern Gaza shortly after telling patients and staff to evacuate the site. nyti.ms/4j8eBpr
