This new study of transport poverty gives further support to the reverse causality hypothesis, which says that your travel situation comes first and your attitudes to travel are shaped by this. Implies: don't try to change everyone's mind first, change the game

Very happy to see this out as part of a great special issue on cleavage politics: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10..... Building on studies on how (1) education, (2) generation and (3) gender structure voting on the GAL/TAN cleavage, we study how they interact.

The Trump admin is causing chaos in transport research. Studies have been canceled, datasets have vanished, and experts have been fired.

The Nat'l Academies’ Transportation Research Board has caved to Trump’s demands for censorship, triggering upheaval. Its future is in doubt.

In Nov 2024, Swiss voters rejected a $5.6b motorway expansion at the ballot box. Even liberal pundits speculated the vote reflected anti-migration sentiment.

Yet exit polls *show*:

▪️73% of voters opposed the bill for environmental reasons

▪️Only 0.06% cited migration concerns as their motivation

New cars in Europe are getting 1 cm wider every two years. T&E says the trend will continue due to the rising sales of SUVs unless lawmakers take action.

50 % of new cars sold are already too wide for the minimum on-street parking space in many countries.
