If the USFS cuts 7,000 more employees and scrambles to establish more local stewardship and good neighbor agreements, those agreements are going to have to generate income for the local partners. That no doubt means more removal of marketable timber and biomass, and less prescribed burning.

I mean, I suppose it is good that public pressure still has *some* effect in very specific and limited circumstances. But I have precisely zero confidence any of these re-hirings will last, or that additional firings/deep programmatic cuts to come will not have the same or worse effects.

Yeah. With additional 10% cuts to NOAA coming next week and an apparent long-term plan for 30-50% staffing reductions to "dismantle" NOAA and "privatize" the NWS, I very strongly suspect some of these folks are unfortunately going to be re-(re-)fired at some point. Beyond absurd.

Getting fired and rehired potentially several times in a few months, with none of it related to performance, is so fucking efficient.
My friend who was a recently terminated first-year NWS Meteorologist told me today he woke up to an email saying his termination is rescinded and he is being reinstated with full backpay. I'm hoping this is all across the board. Curious if anyone else has heard about this?
