Could we—for fun, for science, darlings take your pick—but could we talk about what we’re doing in a geeky joyful nerdout way even if it’s small or is that too much like bragging or some inscrutable social code i don’t understand

things that please you inordinately. I got to try olive oil soap! 🤩
OMG. I just had two dogs jump off the couch right next to me, barking at something on the street, and they got caught up in my yarn and there was yarn stretched across the room in three different directions!!

Thankfully my knitted piece is okay!

Explaining to the dogs that if they mess up the mats on the floor and I trip and die, then who’ll feed them?? Told them that they’ll have to eat my face, but it’s not very big and won’t last long and then they’ll be hungry!

For me here in Australia, the mnemonic I was taught to remember the order of cardinal directions (north, east, south, west) was ‘Never Eat Soggy Weet-Bix’.

What were you taught/do you use, and where in the world are you?

@mullaneygem.bsky.social How’d the whole plumbing/heater saga end up??

Speaking of my little dog, she’s 10 years old, and in dog years, that means she’s reached the age where she won’t put up with other people’s shit anymore, and she knows what she wants and makes it happen. So, for example, ‘pats, now’. And little growls and warning nips for ‘stop that!’ … 1/2 🧵

I love it when my sweet little doggo pushes the side of her face against me, or squiggles her head into the crook of my elbow or my armpit while demanding pats. She’s the cutest. 🥰

A very simple and easy cloth serviette made from an old flanno (flannelette shirt) from the op shop that had a paint stain.

The #sashiko is a simple rectangular spiral to follow the checked pattern.

The flanno was vintage, top quality, and had French seams throughout!

And the back/inside, for those who are interested.

I NEED to talk about this!!

Why did they call these tips ‘thick and thin’?? The pointed tips are not thin. They have a thick part, therefore they are not thin. And the other ones are flat but wide, therefore not thick.

Couldn’t they have called them pointed and flat?? Words mean things!!

Remember to add alt text so that Bluesky is accessible to more people! Change your settings under ‘accessibility’ so that you won’t forget.
I’m seeing heaps of knitters in the knitting feed not doing alt text on their images.

Remember that it doesn’t have to be super, super detailed, but it can also be useful for adding some extra info about your image that won’t fit in with the character limit!

My most comfy shorts tore at the bottom of the leg, so today is reinforce with sashiko day!

You can see the other leg is also about to tear just above the cuff, so that one will be next.

It’s around this point where I desperately want to wash the lines off.

My carpel tunnel syndrome has been bugging me a bit more lately, so I started wearing the braces again at night.

Hey, whaaaat?! It’s started to improve a bit now? WHO KNEW THAT WOULD HELP?! 🤣

When we tie the education of children to grading their learning, we destroy their love of learning for its own sake. We create adults who are afraid of maths or sports because they were shamed by poor grades in school. And we create bullies who think they are superior because of a natural talent.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I made a tiny, fabric bowl from scraps, and did boro style #sashiko on it.

If the satanic panic of the 80s is of interest to you (and I grew up being warned about this stuff in church!) this podcast is one of the most thorough that I’ve come across.

There are interviews with people who were actually in the midst of what was going on.

Thought I was running late, but forgot I was heading across the border where they don’t do DST. So I’m not late after all. LOL!

And speaking of my little dog (two posts ago), she got her staples out today and the wound (from her melanoma removal) is finally looking really good after it split open six days after the procedure.

I found this feather earlier today. So bright and amazing. I then discovered that it was probably from the aforementioned dead bird.
November 12, 2025 at 5:33 AM
My little dog started to rub herself all over something gross today, and as I pulled her out of it, I started to say, ‘No! We don’t roll in…’ was going to say ‘poop’, but I realised what it was and ended with ‘dead birds’.

Thankfully it was kind of dried out. Poor old rainbow lorikeet.
