Sometimes I remember that a lot of Americans simply cannot read and fully comprehend sentences written in English. www.apmreports.org/episode/2019...
How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

Why should you 🫵🏿 care about SNAP? SNAP recipients saw:

- Improved life expectancy
- Lower chance of incarceration
- Lowers chance of poverty
- Lived in better neighborhoods
- Higher human capital

SNAP keeps our neighbors fed, communities safer, and kids educated. Also people are HUNGRY. DUH!

1. We ( @jbakcoleman.bsky.social, @cailinmeister.bsky.social, @jevinwest.bsky.social, and I) have a new preprint up on the arXiv.

There we explore how social media companies and other online information technology firms are able to manipulate scientific research about the effects of their products.

Where's the reputable place to chip in money for US govt federal workers?

it is incomprensible what a waste of time and money and erosion of public confidence it is to have governmental departments create social media account simply to harass and troll. Utterly embarrassing.

I wish I was at a protest today. However, I am in the middle of nowhere. But know that I'd be at one if it was close.

Countries with more economic inequality have higher homicide rates. But for any given country, the relationship isn't as strong. This poses a multilevel modelling problem that it's easy to trip over. I tripped, righted (I hope), and blogged about it with #rstats. freerangestats.info/blog/2025/10...

Had a lovely time giving a small talk at Data Behind the Scenes yesterday, I think (hope?) folks found the talk interesting, and I really enjoyed the other talks that I could catch! Thanks to @randyau.com for organizing!

Seems as though the debate on age verification for social media is: do we treat social media like cigarettes or do we treat it like books? There's no similar debate for video games, alcohol, movies, driving, etc. There is a related debate about GDPR, right to be forgotten, etc.

For the record.

My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers.

I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."

There's a standing tradition among the editorial elite that only the Democrats must ever be scolded, or held to any kind of standard. Any Republican saying anything represents the salt of the earth that "elites" must adjust to in order to gain "heartland" votes.
Meanwhile the sitting vice president talks about “Cultural Marxism” and “the Cathedral” and uses esoteric White Power jargon all the time but his language is not a liability
the reason this discourse will never end is because it is completely untethered from any kind of evidentiary standard. as long as there is a 19-year-old barista somewhere saying “cultural appropriation,” guys like nichols will complain that “democrats” use alienating language.
