The problem is Macron isn't actually respecting democracy. He called an election, the left-wing NUPES alliance won the most seats, but rather than work with them in a coalition to keep the far right out, he tries keeping NUPES out. Those actions erode support for liberal democracy.
France is not alone in its political crisis – belief in a democratic world is vanishing | Simon Tisdall
The populist right offers a solution in the form of turning back the clock. Macron and his counterparts need to find a different answer fast, says Guardian foreign affairs commentator Simon Tisdall

The agreement Republicans have is "I'm gonna break a bunch of stuff that benefits other people we don't like. It'll be painful for a bit, but don't worry, I'll take care of you in a different way." This is all about creating selective policy that only benefits in-groups.

80 of the University of Arizona's most elite faculty, all Regents professors, are calling for rejection of the Trump administration's proposed compact. They make a key point I hadn't really focused on: The compact's benefits are completely nebulous.

About 80 top U of A professors urge rejection of Trump compact
There's no assurance the University of Arizona would actually get funding benefits for complying, the Regents professors warn.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

He got the award because he broke the color line on the highest office.

Which sounds old timey, because that’s how backwards the United States is.
One of the only things Trump has ever been right about: Obama had no business winning the Nobel Peace Prize for what amounted to the accomplishment of being a US president who was not George W Bush. (Remember, he had been in office for eight months at the time.)

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.

Bill Maher says he still votes for Democratic candidates. But Weiss has helped provide language for Maher, Bezos and other coastal, non-evangelical people to express their views and resentments. It's a new version of "moderate" conservatism. newrepublic.com/article/2014...
MAGA Lite: What “Bari Weiss Conservatism” Is, and Why It’s Dangerous
The new CBS executive isn’t exactly MAGA. But her polite Trumpism will still help destroy America as we know it.

Funding levels have skyrocketed to support the activities we see right now.

Now it’s “…but nobody knew it would be this bad…”

Yeah, WE knew!

It’s actually incredible how wrong Ezra is about “needing” to welcome anti-abortion and anti-trans politicians. Democrats were unable to protect vulnerable people BECAUSE they had conservative lawmakers in their ranks—including one Joe Manchin. Alongside Sinema, he blocked codifying Roe v. Wade
