Lacan never spoke of freedom. But he wrote about war (internal and external), just as Sartre and Arendt did. He didn't need freedom as a concept to conceptualize human subjectivity. I tend to side with him: Freedom is too elusive while war is immanent. Sadly. 5/5

“I'm not willing to treat Elon Musk "collegially and with courtesy". Any pleasure I may take in the distinction of the honour of an FRS is diminished by the fact it is shared with someone who appears to be modeling himself on a Bond villan… Accordingly, last week I resigned my FRS.”

Thanks, Martin, for highlighting this study, which adds to the evidence for the long-term effectiveness of psychotherapy.
1. There is hardly any evidence on what happens after the end of depression treatments. Finally, Voderholzer et al. published their review on 19 such studies comparing antdepressant tx and psychotherapie or their combination.

Training Programs: The relationship accounts for more variance in outcomes than the specific technical interventions.

Students: Okay, so my patient is depressed, how can I use the therapeutic relationship to help them?

Training Programs: Have you tried behavioral activation? RCTs show it helps!
Students of therapy will hear “it’s the relationship” a thousand times but won’t hear how to understand the relationship even once.
Most training programs tell you "it’s the relationship" and then they leave you alone. They don’t really say much more about it, so you’re left to figure it out for yourself... [Students] don’t get trained in it. They don’t get trained in being able to listen.”

The right does indeed have a big Bluesky problem.

X gave the right an opportunity to 'own the libs' and persuade the persuadables to join their side.

Bluesky could deprive them of both.

The Medical Model of Psychopathology

“[The term] “medical model” has become a slogan for use in public debate than a term of precision for furthering intellectual discussion or scientific discovery.” Gerald Klerman, 1977

Klerman noted in 1977 that the term had evolved into a slogan used more for rhetorical impact than scientific clarification
