This seems credible, coming from Jon Ostrower. I've also had people with knowledge of China confirm that the official statement does cite the actual relevant national security legislation. Not 100% verifiable, but in line with what I sadly expected.
NEWS (or lack thereof): China’s CAAC is withholding a report on the March 2022 crash of China Eastern 5735, a Boeing 737-800, saying “disclosure may endanger national security and social stability.” Safety experts have long suspected the aircraft was deliberately crashed by one of the flight crew.

Extremely funny that these claims (multifamily housing in SFH neighborhoods are causing people to flee California, the true villain of the housing crisis is private equity) being made by a Republican senator (Kelly Seyarto) sound exactly like those made by suburban Democrats and equity groups.

But losing elections doesn’t help advance causes that you believe in!

We would have a more humane immigration policy today if Joe Biden had been tougher, sooner on people exploiting asylum loopholes. It’s important to be clear-eyed and not take refuge in “well the effect sizes are small.”

It's such an awkward position to agree wholeheartedly with roughly 99.9% of leftist ideals, while still having enough functioning eyeballs to notice that American leftism has become THE most ineffective and incompetent political movement I've ever seen firsthand in my life, hands down.

The Supreme Court is not why the Biden Administration got zero EV chargers built, got zero rural broadband built, took until late 2024 to award money to CAHSR and BLW. The Supreme Court didn’t make Biden go balls to the wall for Buy America and tariffs and so on.
"why can republican presidents do anything they want and democratic presidents can't get anything done" like it's very very stupid to me that this is the case, but 90% of the answer is the supreme court being controlled by the conservative psycho gang of six

Like suppose you could replace four red state senators with Democrats who were to the right of Joe Manchin but a bit to the left of Susan Collins. Wouldn’t that be good? What if you could get Lisa Murkowski to cross the aisle.

Something to consider while others yell at me.

When nations go from middle income to developed the middle class loses access to domestic servants. There's shades of that going on here.
As with a lot of Bad Discourse topics I don't even think "I am mad that my doordash order is very expensive" is a totally illogical or invalid complaint, the thing is that if that's your complaint, maybe the left side of the political spectrum is not the correct side for you.

It turns out that there are lots of voters who do not agree with major elements of the progressive platform.

They care more about cheap energy than about climate change, they have non-cosmopolitan values about immigration, they have traditional views about gender, whatever it is they disagree.

Not that you can give Biden undivided credit for those or that they mean you shouldn’t criticize his many severe flaws.

But man it sucks that we’ve learned how little people care about full employment and genuine support for poor children vs cheap food delivery

If you make it impossible to build housing then no amount of money will let you house the homeless.

If housing is plentiful, then it’s cheap to give it to people in need.

Joe Manchin’s approach to winning elections in West Virginia did not exactly meet with universal acclaim from out of state stakeholders in Democratic Party politics.

Jamie Harrison became DNC chair after losing badly with a base-pleasing run.

It still seems worth considering that any coherent account of what capitalism is will presumably not exhaust all human ills if it ended tomorrow. Perhaps reflecting on what problems would remain after capitalism might help discipline thinking about what capitalism is (not a synonym for social evil)

To get affordable housing, we need affordable construction

We see what actually existing left outlets are like — accusing Biden of complicity in genocide, relentlessly hostile to any big tent strategies, weirdly credulous about vacuous populist gestures from Josh Hawley, obsessively focused on factional infighting, etc

a useful thing to ask is how specifically does a rule or regulation or order go from issuance to implementation. for instance, trump has said that he will issue an executive order denying birth certificates and SSNs to the children of undocumented immigrants. okay. what happens next?

This is why I keep going back to the media issue. Ds like and trust the MSM (though that's fraying). MSM reporters want to ask skeptical questions and make news. Trump prioritized conservative/entertainment news outlets that wanted to hang out with cool guy Donald Trump and ask friendly questions.

Everyone who covered 2019-2020 has scars from the "how will you pay for it ... with MIDDLE CLASS TAXES?" M4A discourse.

Now: Did you ever see an interviewer ask Trump how he'd pay for free IVF? Go and look. It didn't happen.
realizing that questions like "how will you pay for it" are the equivalent of the reporter punching you in the face, not a quiz you can figure out the correct answer to, is gonna be important for dem candidates.

and hey: many different ways to respond to getting punched!
Related, I liked Tom Vilsack's answer to JMart - and thought, why don't Dems run bolder presidential campaigns?

One reason is that they are very responsive to MSM and worry about the "but how? And how will you PAY for it" Qs. Rs are not. www.politico.com/news/magazin...
