I got this live at ssb.evbogue.com if anyone wants to try ssb classic.
avatar photos are working in ssb-classic now! this is the very old patchbay version from 2016 that had Tweetdeck-level functionality.

i'm trying to ask codex to wire patchbay circa 2015 in to scuttlebot-classic as a plugin. it's thinking very hard right now

For a long time scuttlebot "lite clients" were broken. I gave OpenAI's Codex 15 minutes to try and figure out how to fix them and here's their answer.

Yes, the keypair is in the browser where it should be.

Anyone want to try this, or audit this code? I'll push to gh.

if you're decentralized then you're not centralized
If you're not using the repository records as the canonical storage then you're off protocol.

It's not inherently "bad" to be off protocol. There's always some judgment involved, especially when we don't have private records yet.

But a good rule of thumb is, you know, be on protocol

Sounds more like you are looking for peer to peer technology rather than any flavour of fediverse.

Nothing is stopping atproto from adopting ssb-style content addressable storage and signed messages. If Patchwork was crippled, atproto was designed to be handicapped. (caught the ssb joke tho)
"Pure clients" are always somewhat crippled with technical capabilities, and without server endpoints designed for their needs, they'll make a patchwork of solutions that don't perform well.

I was digging around in the ssb-server code from a decade ago and I accidentally dug up some screenshots of the original "Phoenix Network" client for secure-scuttlebot.

Testing to see if this post will show up in my following feed, since it seems to have been vanished.
Yes, and the solution here is to put some responsibility on the user for the content that they are viewing. Web2 companies are publishers putting volunteered content in front of eyeballs. Web3 companies are distancing themselves from the content by having the users host the content.
