atproto: it's like a bunch of servers emailing one server

i went to the website and i wouldn't rule out React as the culprit here either.

when does the frame-level hashing/verification run in proofmode? that'd be very cpu intensive.

hopefully we are not attaching the videos to the nostr msgs and signing the entire video -- that'd really bog things down

i'm tempted to say this is indexing, but it could also be a lot of other things. tiktok probably generates an index specifically for every user which might be necessary here? we could also bring a lot of nostr msgs clientside and index there, depends on how the feed needs to be presented.

i read this article, haven't tried divine myself. i'm left wondering what is the actual bug? is the client hanging upon trying to load videos?
November 16, 2025 at 5:50 PM
yes, i think if we were building sbot today we'd package it up as a React Native app. I wonder if anyone's still running an ssb pub? it'd be fun to see if my $4 VPS can handle syncing

i dare say that commit i linked to is the authoritative work. i'll push it to git-ssb if you'll clone it

yet another reason to ban cars

i also appreciate the value of being able to say the darn ai did it. if i'd actually fixed ssb there'd be all kinds of awkward social pressures. with ai i can just shrug it off and blame the stupid program for fixing it

have you tried "vibe coding" dominic? years ago i was kinda forced into being a coder after a youthful career as an aspiring writer so i personally find it quite relaxing compared to the real thing which just kinda burns me out. also the dang ai made ssb work finally so that's something

i just want to give artificial intelligence major fraking props for getting this working again. i haven't used this workflow for 8 or 9 years.
November 16, 2025 at 6:51 AM
i did just try that and it broke. but! doesn't matter. for my purposes i only want to stand up a single working sbot with a lite client so i can show curious people how it was and how far away the current dev cycle has strayed from how it could have been
November 16, 2025 at 1:35 AM
this commit was also git-ssb compatible!!!
November 16, 2025 at 12:34 AM
i did zero in on github.com/ssbc/patchba... for a reason. i kinda always felt that was where the timeline forked
