this is the "merit" two-step. first, you strongly imply or state outright that the presence of anyone who isn't a straight, able-bodied white man is unfair "DEI," then you argue that just because an institution is all-male and lily-white doesn't mean there is discrimination. that's just merit!

When I first saw this, I was struck by the thought that you could just replace the temple with a colonial Catholic church or cathedral, and this would look like innumerable towns I've visited in Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize.

The tragedy that inspired this Woody Guthrie protest song happened 77 years (1/28/1948). Hard not to see the parallels when thinking of the administration setting arrest quotas for ICE. And now ICE is in my town in central PA - our community that has become home to many refugee families.

Minutes ago, the Trump admin revoked the sensitive locations policy that prevented ICE from carrying out enforcement arrests inside churches, hospitals, and schools.
