Breaking: Mike Johnson named to coach the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 Superbowl
Mike Johnson on Trump calling for Rs to "nationalize" elections: "We had 3 Republicans who were ahead on election day in last cycle & every time a new tranche of ballots came in they just magically whittled away until their leads were lost. It looks on its face to be fraudulent. Can I prove it? No"

Not for nothing. But I
don’t have any need to
spare the Clintons now and I voted for both of them.

Someone was asking me why I would give up all the opportunities and conveniences of city life. Yeah ... I can't imagine why.

Man, I wish the Democratic Party had a good social media intern who could capitalize on this.
Trump: "I don't want to drive housing prices down. I want to drive housing prices up for people who own homes."

I found this wonderful quote by Alan Hinman looking back on some old correspondence with him:

"If an eradication program fails to strengthen infrastructure, it is a failure of planning and leadership, not inherently a failure of the program."

This will be my new mantra.

Some of my colleagues say they’ll work forever because they can’t imagine what they would do if they retired. I’m pretty sure I could keep myself busy.

Allan was a mensch, plain and simple. What a loss and what a well-lived life. He had a favorite pizza place in Geneva and we had dinner there several times. That I go to do such mundane things with my heroes will never cease to amaze me.
@taskforce.bsky.social mourns the loss of our friend, colleague, mentor and vaccine visionary, Dr. Alan Hinman, who passed away at the age of 88 on January 26. He spent more than 50 years working in public health, devoting his career to a vision of a world without vaccine-preventable diseases.

There's a lot of bad news in health and politics. But at least you didn't write this headline in Spring of 2025 ...

... it's me, I'm the one with the really bad timing.

Reflections on nordic skiing:
1. you can be both envious and thankful of the one who breaks the trail
2. each person that skis in the track means that those behind can go faster and further
3. if you didn't get to break trail this time, it will snow again

I got to sit next to Bill Foege a day-long meeting with Bill Gates in 2015 about the feasibility of pathogen eradication. We were the only two people in a room of ~40 that were wearing ties. If that day is the closest to greatness I reach, I'm cool with that. 1/
