Some people are into politics because they care about how policy impacts people. They like winning elections, and build coalitions to do so.

Other people are into politics as aesthetics, because their stances make them feel edgy and superior. They like losing and complaining, and shun coalitions.
There’s a weird thing on this website and lots of left-wing subcultures, where people love to throw around “liberal” as an insult, but from what I can tell liberals voted overwhelmingly against Cuomo and are rallying behind Zohran now.

I assure you no matter what happens the future of the national Democratic Party has nothing to do with the NYC election, nor should it.
This stupid municipal election is gonna be the thing all year no matter how big Spanberger and Sherrill win in November, isn't it?

The whole idea of "antiwar" Trump has long rested on a confused reading of his hatred of multilateralism, the international order, and the Deep State. He doesn't hate those things for "dovish" reasons. He hates them for degenerate/corrupt reasons.

Thoughts on that:

When a public commentator sees a politician lie, it's better for them to point out that it's lie than to praise the liar, especially when that doesn't even accurately describe the politicians' actual rhetoric or record, but is something made up that sounds more appealing to the commentator.

expect tons of states to now outlaw gender affirming care for minors now
🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court UPHOLDS Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for minors, concluding that it does NOT discriminate on the basis of sex, is not subject to heightened scrutiny, and survives rational basis review. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

The central puzzle in American politics is why Republicans continue to win elections despite pursuing deeply unpopular policies.
The simplest explanation is that issue positions don't matter nearly as much as we like to think they do.

New from me at @motherjones.com: an anti-DEI attack from New Hampshire Republicans could mean that any program that helps disabled people get ready for/find employment could be stripped of funding. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Conservative protests are always treated as an organic cry of anger that manifests the distress of the unjustly ignored American heartland; protests from the center-left are always written off as noise from inside the bubble.
The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency.

The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?
Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!
