Increasingly I have come around to the perspective that "hackability" of TRPGs is not actually a positive of the medium and is instead an overall neutral aspect that often dips into the negatives when used to justify Bethesda-esque "it's fine that the game is bad because YOU can fix it!" stances

To any game dev students: This picture goes so hard, because this is exactly 100% how it is.
Learn to accept the meandering roads of game development and your will make games with less worry and headache - still difficult to make good games tho..
Game dev isn’t a straight line - it’s more like a twisting, looping roller coaster. There are setbacks, breakthroughs, and a ton of learning along the way. Every detour is progress in some way or another. Keep going, you’re building something awesome! #gamedev

This is an interesting topic, but there are some big differences with games vs movies that make consistent processes much harder to achieve. (As I’m talking about this keep in mind that I’m also an outsider to films).
just as an outsider with an interest in video game development, and coming from the film industry, it really feels like the game industry has no standardized workflow. every new project gets a bespoke production system with a lot of uncertainty about tasks, roles and who should be doing what
Why do video games cost so much to make these days? A recent NYT article pinned bloated budgets on the graphical arms race, but that's only a small part of the equation. The real problem? Rampant mismanagement.

This is the single most important advice any creative person needs to hear.

There are of course factors such as financial insecurity or mental and physical impediments (spoons ≠ motivation even though people will tell you they are the same) but when you can, do, whether you feel inspired or not.
