We have the longest undefended border in the world. Do you know how special that is?

We fought shoulder to shoulder in world wars and in Afghanistan. Now Trump is throwing all that in the garbage.

Great comment on the stats that shows Trump's lies on drugs and deficits regarding Canada.
🔴 Please comment in this thread if you were following me on X (or not) and want me to add you back. The deluge of so many of us fleeing X is overwhelming to vet one by one.

I’m used to carefully vetting each follower on X so I’m doing that here too since I limit replies to people I follow. Thanks!

This is Trump's Rule BY Law, the antithesis of #TheRuleofLaw following Putin's & Xi Jingpin's versions. Sadly the US is on the brink of falling into similar autocracy if not worse.
"There is no such thing as settled law. There is law Trump and the broader right accept, and law that they don’t accept, and everything in the latter category will be relentlessly challenged."
We’ve Now Learned the Three Principles of Trumpism, and They’re Ugly
Trump 1.0 was a Jackson Pollock—splat splat all over the place. Trump 2.0 is painting within very precise lines. It’s terrifying—but it should help plan how to fight.

Trump says he plans to use "economic force" to make Canada a state

This insanity from the most powerful office in the world could well usher in a new era of global anarchy and disorder.
This is a litmus test for Republicans who claim to be concerned about things like national security & sovereignty & 🇺🇸 power/hegemony. If we get to do this, then everyone else gets to also. Including 🇨🇳. Is that really what you want? Is power at home so important to you that nothing else matters?

It has space and resources, Europe has people. Let's deal.

Due to the lies and #postruth by Trump #Democracy is not only in grave danger in the US, its contagion is spreading across the remaining democratic world, see how the mob and would be dictators are using the same Trump strategy in South Korea.
We must never stop telling the truth.

This piece and others like it are essential to preserving freedom and democracy in America. Because once this gets whitewashed, it’s easier for them to do it again.

Thank you for doing a fab job on all the issues covered in @lawfare.bsky.social No doubt with #autocracy on the rise, 2025 will be even busier for you. Keep up the good work
2024 was a long year—and we covered it all. Lawfare contributors looked back on the major events that occurred this year in the diverse range of the security landscape, from the Israel-Gaza War to AI to the Trump trials. It’s The Year That Was: 2024. www.lawfaremedia.org/resources/la...

Bots are indeed a threat to liberal #democracy.
We shouldn't underestimate the role bots play in framing our beliefs, behaviour, and online content.

Bots both mimic and shape human sentiment.

I learn a lot each time I read @thomaszimmer.bsky.social, one of the most astute scholars of the American right. This piece on Russell Vought, Trump's nominee to lead OMB, describes a confluence of far-right ideology and institutional competence--potentially the most dangerous current of MAGAism.
Meet the Ideologue of the “Post-Constitutional” Right

Russell Vought, one of the architects behind Project 2025, believes there is nothing left to conserve. He desires revolution – and to burn down the system.

Interesting thoughts here for Canadians to consider.
As Canadian pundits debate who would be the best “Trump-whisperer,” European leaders are talking about breaking their dependency on an unpredictable and anti-democratic United States

For the Toronto Star, I wrote about how Canada’s political conversation is out of sync with elsewhere in the world:
Europe is leaving Donald Trump’s America behind. Should Canada do the same?
What was once unthinkable may in fact turn out to be a necessity.

The fall out from this disastrous election on the most vulnerable will reinforce the reality of a fascist takeover of the #RuleofLaw and #justice.
In my weekend essay for @torontostar.bsky.social I wrote that Trump's cabinet is above all violent (politically and personally), and could get help from militias to carry out violent programs like mass deportations. Looks like militias are preparing to do just that. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

Out of roughly 153 million votes cast in this election, the presidency was decided by 230k across the three states of Wisconsin (30k), Michigan (80k) and Pennsylvania (120k). That's 00.15%.

This remains an extremely closely divided nation. Any agenda viewed as extreme is likely to face backlash.
