Del Toro’s Frankenstein is great. I’ve loved the story since I read it in high school, but I really needed to see Mia Goth’s wardrobe in full action. I was not disappointed.

Back in 2023, I started warning about a new anti-abortion talking point: 'coerced' abortion.

Republicans were getting walloped on the issue at the polls, so leading antis started recommending that lawmakers change course.

I like projects that create knowledge and put it where anyone can have it, these days. iNaturalist. Merlin and the Cornell lab behind it. The whole Wikipedia outfit. Idk it just seems nice to directly and unapologetically document and detail what happens in the world. 🌿💚

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines.

The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds.

It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

honestly think some of the hesitation here is that no one wants to sound like a crank. i was talking at an event last night and even i felt like a crank while i was speaking!
What if there were a coup, the US government fell to a drug-addled oligarch who seized control of our money, secrets, and levers of power, and Corporate media did not report on it?

The National STD Curriculum and the National HIV Curriculum are something referenced by healthcare practitioners EVERY SINGLE DAY. Taking this type of information offline, even temporarily, is going to cause real physical harm to women. Much more harm than the words “pregnant person” ever did.

The argument that authors can’t afford artists to design their covers is so tired and weak.

Create a simple design on Canva and Procreate. Tons of tutorials to help you learn how. Save up the money.

Commission rates can be very affordable. Artists are flexible and will even offer payment plans.

Parable of the Sower
Check out this great listen on Audible.com. Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author Octavia E. Butler paints a stunning portrait of an all-too-believable near future. As with Kindred and her other critic...

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.
