had not realised that the research for Sapiens drew primarily on important archeological source material, the Clan of the Cave Bear series
Episode 46: Sapiens

It's an ambitious goal to write the entire history of humanity in just 400 pages. It's even more ambitious to do it without reading any research.

Just a heads up, if you’re getting regularly smiled at by babies and greeted warmly by dogs you are carrying a fragment of the sacred light within you and must guard it closely

a few months ago I sent a “ooh I saw a yellow bird” message to Harry and he was like “was it a robin?” and I said “pfffft no I know what a yellow robin is” and it turns out the bird I saw was a CRITICALLY ENDANGERED HELMETED HONEYEATER and I may have located a colony! #proud

I am aware that doing this particular arrangement of books makes me a very Basic Bitch but it also made me feel instantly happier so it’s worth it imo

an organisation I worked for where many were vociferously opposed to doing an acknowledgement of country 20 years ago has just launched a series of projects they’ve worked on in collaboration with local Indigenous Elders. The community building and growth they’ve done is genuine and meaningful.

thank you Wil Wheaton I needed this
Hi. It's me. I'm here to gently ask if you've been giving yourself grace? Patience? Self-care?

You've got this. You are enough, and you deserve all the good things.

A nice obituary for Alice, who was going to be recognized as one of The Post 50.

I hate that we now have to live without this phenomenal woman.

this was not intentional, but makes me super happy: like, the writer I hoped to grow into when I was young was somebody I envisioned as writing about flowers on multiple continents
The mountain goats have explored flowers across 3 continents now

to my “aggressively lapsed Catholic” parents‘ great horror, I am also all-in on Catholic intrigue… the politics is absolutely wild/frequently horrifying/sometimes affirming
As a cultural Catholic* I am absolutely delighted by Leo’s hammering of JD Vance

*I was born into Catholicism and although I no longer believe in God I remain all in on any kind of Catholic intrigue
BREAKING: At Pope Leo XIV’s urging, U.S. Catholic bishops just delivered the strongest rebuke of a sitting president in Church history — condemning Trump-Vance raids as “inhumane” and “dehumanizing” in a 216–5 vote.
