I just finished downloading all my kindle books and cross referencing them in my Calibre library to make sure each and every book I bought is now safely on my computer.
As others have mentioned, amazon may very well start censoring/banning books you bought, so make sure you download them asap!

FYI, Amazon will no longer enable the downloading of ebooks to exterior devices starting February 26th.
Here’s a tutorial on how to download your ebooks off of Amazon. You can use Calibre (free software) to reformat the kindle books to be used on other devices.
