This is obscene.

The challenges facing the nation means we should be scaling up CSIRO, not cutting it to shreds.

While we are sending billions to the US for nuclear shipyards, our science and industrial base at home is falling apart for lack of funds and direction.

We had the vet come to the house to send Oscar off today. He had Degenerative Myelopathy. It’s a cruel condition that meant his back legs progressively stopped working and he couldn’t walk, but his cognition was unaffected. He was the goodest of good boys and I’m going to miss him dreadfully 🌈🐾😢

“And so the Greeks send me this horse, we’re talking about one of the most beautiful horses you’ve ever seen. So big. So strong. Normally they keep this kind of horse for themselves but they were such big fans they said sir, please take our big wonderful horse we’ll even bring it to your house”

Susie on point as usual with her word of the day. Exquisite 🤌
Word of the Day is ‘quockerwodger’ (19th century): a puppet individual whose strings are pulled entirely by someone else.

Fine, fine, everything’s fine…….
At the moment, mansion-sized Asteroid 2024-YR4 has a one-in-fifty chance of hitting Earth in the next eight years.

Now might be a bad time to reduce spending on Science. Just sayin’.

Tomorrow at 9am, instead of rage tweeting about Insiders and ruining a pleasant morning, we're launching The Sunday Shot.

The excellent @rachelwithers.bsky.social and @anthonyklan.bsky.social will join me and Jo Dyer to unpack heinous happenings. Greg Sheridan will not be involved in any capacity

Brilliant
Dutton can't dodge the spotlight — or his unresolved problems
The Coalition seems to be relying on the disgruntlement of voters with the government over tough times, rather than actively producing serious policies to do anything about it.

The federal Liberal party - flying across Australia in private, pollution belching jets owned by fossil fuel multi-millionaires one minute, making pink gin cocktails the next, then bleating and whining about the "elites".

Blood-sucking, soulless plaster-saints.

This will be a game changer if it translates to real world vaccines 🙌
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford Medicine have devised an influenza vaccine that prompts immunity to ALL four major flu subtypes AND shows potential against bird flu, indicating a significant advancement in flu prevention and a potential increase in vaccine efficacy. Let’s talk about that! 🧪🧵⬇️

Extraordinary people. Thank goodness we still have at least the occasional great journalism on main stream media to bring these stories to light
THREAD To finish 2024, I want to highlight bravery of people who spoke out for our 4 Corners stories this year. By no means an exhaustive list, but blows me away. The ones that really got me are those that didn’t have to do it but chose to because it was the right thing. Give it up for them. 🙌💪❤️

My money on Australia Day…
#spud
What’ll it be next time? Israel? Welcome to Country? Place names? Flags? Protesters? Australia Day? Every time Dutton comes under any scrutiny, he reaches into his bag of tricks and chucks out a few spicy lines. The media take the bait and he just slinks away. Rinse & repeat. #auspol #peterdutton
