This photograph shows a brown moth perched on a stick as the photographer holds it up underneath a poplar tree. There's a very strong sense of one point perspective as the tree trunk goes up into the sky and creates a vanishing point somewhere beyond the branches and the leaves. I found this moth struggling on the ground near the end of its life. I decided to give it one last flight and let it crawl on the end of a stick. I slowly lifted the stick with the moth into the air and caught it with a photo underneath a large poplar tree. Little did I know this was a silk tulip tree moth, and the tree was a tulip poplar. The moth got a portrait with its namesake on its last flight.

My experience with Ruffed Grouse is that unlike their “heart attack bird” cousins, the Sharp-tailed Grouse, they just walk around like they own the place (which they do) #birds 🌿
