Once you start thinking of AI as a war on humanity, on human thought, on human inquiry, on human labor, on nuance and critical thinking, it slots in pretty seamlessly with the right wing ideological project, oligarchical political projects, big tech's political projects, etc
The future being pushed by both AI boosters and educational censors is one where access to information is tightly controlled. Children will not be allowed to read certain books or learn certain narratives. “Research” will be performed only through one of a select few artificial intelligence tools owned by AI giants which are uniformly aligned behind the Trump administration and which have gone to the ends of the earth to prevent their black box machines from spitting out “woke” answers lest they catch the ire of the administration. School boards and library boards, forced to comply with increasingly restrictive laws, funding cuts, and the threat of being defunded entirely, leap at the chance to be considered forward looking by embracing AI tools, or apply for grants from government groups like the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which is increasingly giving out grants specifically to AI projects.

But a still graver scandal of AI— like its hydra-head sibling, cryptocurrency-is the technology's colossal wastefulness. The untold billions firehosed by investors into its development; the water-guzzling data centers draining the parched exurbs of Phoenix and Dallas; the yeti-size carbon footprint of the sector as a whole—and for what? A cankerous glut of racist memes and cardboard essays. Not only is the ratio of Al's resource rapacity to its productive utility indefensibly and irremediably skewed, Al-made material is itself a waste product: flimsy, shoddy, disposable, a single-use plastic of the mind.

this "passion tax" appears all over the place & should be talked about more. you see it in book stores and game stores all the time

excitement for particular work is constantly weaponized to depress wages & pit workers against each other

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking science fiction as a source of inspiration to a point. The problem is when you get people saying science fiction should not remain fiction forever. It's not a roadmap. You are not Hari Seldon. This is not Foundation, which is a cautionary tale. Foundation is the decline and fall of the Roman Empire in space. Something like Civilization is a lot of what's going on here as well—the idea of a tech tree that's predefined by the game, and you just choose how quickly you're going to advance along that tree. That's just not how anything in human history has ever worked. It's a dangerous belief. Generally, more careful and critical readings of science fiction would be the way to go. The humanities are deeply undervalued, and I think it's good to learn to read with a more critical eye. But I also think some people are never going to be able to get it. You don't need a critical eye in order to understand that Star Trek is not about space, it is actually about society.
