The experience of seeing a glacier is something else! Here are some studies I did on location over the summer. I’d been trying to paint from this vista all week but it was constantly covered in cloud... until the last day! 😅 Hooray!

Everyone was reminded of Iceland’s fiery heart with the eruption in Fagradalsfjall 2021. I will never forget avidly following the eruption via the webcams & with my paintbrush. It was the first eruption I ever experienced with my own eyes.

🎃👻In the spirit of #Halloween how many ghosts can you see in this painting? It was inspired by the line ‘moon looms, death rides’ from an Icelandic ghost story & Skogafoss was the perfect backdrop for such a spectral rendezvous!

With everything being digital these days I find it especially refreshing to unplug and step outside. When I do – it’s such a wonderful feeling! On location I make small studies, gathering first hand how I felt, the colours I saw, how the light and weather affected the scene in that very moment.

You know that feeling when you’re on a walk and the sun comes out making everything glow – it’s just so uplifting! It’s that feeling & sense of light I wanted to capture by #pleinair painting in that moment, on the shoreline in Ægisíða.

📢 NEW painting! I LOVE this waterfall - I love how the cascading water looms in this dark alcove cut into the craggy hillside. This contrast was made even more stark when I visited the waterfall in overcast misty weather – classic Iceland!

I have a small series of art prints made from some of my paintings – could make a lovely gift!
Here I’ve painted the rich orange colours of the geothermal hills of Baðstofa in Krýsuvík, which were bright in the late afternoon sun.

New #pleinair oil painting of Lambarfoss for #waterfallwednesday I painted this on location during our trip to Husafell last month. I was hiking around lambartungur and came across a little track which led me to this beauty!

NEW mini oil painting, available framed and mounted. On the shoreline in Vesturbær, looking out over the sea towards Keilir, the evening sky was bathed in pink light creating a beautiful palette of purples and blues.

📢 NEW painting! I was on my way out of Krýsuvík when I saw the low warm sun hitting Vatnshlíðarhorn. The colours were so stunning that I slammed on the brakes (joking) but I did pull over & paint some colour notes which I then used to create this #landscapepainting

I’ve been working on a series of ‘mini’ paintings which are available framed and mounted. Hallgrímskirkja forms such a prominent and recognisable part of Reykjavik's skyline, you often see it whilst travelling about in the city.
